Beatriz Archundia’s smile is as contagious as her brightly colored Day of the Dead skulls are. And they are her specialty. Her skulls decorate her local (stand), from ceiling to floor, and except for a few minor details, and the fact that she has them in a variety of sizes, they are all quite similar. But what makes her calaveras stand apart from similar craft sold in other locales are the vivid colors she chooses to dress them up with –greens, pinks, blues, and yellows, whatever combination used they are all quite pleasing. The speed with which Beatriz strokes designs onto her skulls with a paintbrush is also mesmerizing – truly the work of a skilled artisan.
